arggg i didn't absorb anything in public law lect at all so far! i guess it's pardonable since i'm only working on 3 hrs of sleep now. dick lee looks rather scruffy today... shaggy hair and all. tris says rowr. that was irrelevant. but anyway... he's talking abt female workers in sri lanka now, which reminds me of last night's great escapade. we herded abt 40 foreign workers all arnd singapore!

ok, they weren't the typical little india patronising types, but they're foreign, and work real hard in law sch! yep, it was the LSIRC singapore tour for exchange students and we had a huge convoy plying the island last night. we went to mt faber/ labrador park for some old war time relics, then the lim chu kang cemetary to scare them a little bit with tales of malicious chinese ghosts (so sad, the way that agatha painted such a bleak picture of dead chinese), then off to kranji and serembang to feel like jap soldiers. and the food; durian from geylang (and "eye candy" along the streets as we drove through the lorongs) and prata from thomson. oh yeah, macs for dinner. well... we DID say it's a singapore culture tour... yarpp... we ended the whole thing at abt 4am and felt very happy for ourselves that the whole event went very well. kudos to LSIRC for setting this wonderful precedent for subsequent batches. the exchange students seemed interested enough (or at least they appreciated us enough to pretend to be) and i was a tourist in my own country. good job guys! i had lotsa lotsa fun though this morning i just wanted to sleeeeppppppp.

i'm still not listening.....

tis the season of parties! rui's bday in macs was super funny; seeing 20 plus yr old ppl in ronald macdonald party hats and playing with the happy meal toys. thankfully we got to eat normal adult meals instead of getting a cute little box of baby food each. for most of us, this was the first time in ages that we ate a whole meal from macs and the very next day, we cld still taste the oil and trans fat in our mouths. haha. still, it was a great event which beats the standard "buffet in function room" format hands down. kudos to kong, who choreographed the whole surprise and pulled off yet another birthday surprise!

i feel horrible... last week was a terrible time in terms of work productivity; pathetic amount of time spent on anything academic. oh no, i need to be checked into muggers anonymous! sawl seminar is chocabloc full of details to be tended to; careers fair has yielded an unexpected treat from 1 of the firms i'm working with and i've got tkd grading next saturday. in terms of CCAs, i'm in top form... but we all know that this is sg and CCAs dun count for jack. well, next wk is a fresh start, and even more parties. life gets u excited at times, doesn't it?

1st week of school has passed so very fast! should i be worried that after a week of lectures, i still dunno what or how we're supposed to approach the courses this sem? everyday after school, i hear of ppl mugging (ALREADY!) but when i open my damn thick textbooks, i see no direction or value in the words and promptly fall asleep after 2 pages. darnnnn... why can't we all take it abit slower. went shopping on monday and tuesday and bought 2 pairs of shoes, played pool in the lounge on wednesday, k-box session with law ppl on thurs (had to read out the chinese lyrics to germaine as she sang, chun ying tried to mumble like jay chou and the guys hung their bleeding hearts on their sleeves as they sang bon jovi songs) and watched the nkf trial on friday. the afternoon trial was brain-numbingly boring cos it was 3 hrs of cross ex of the SPH executive. no heated exchanges, no loaded words; or maybe the world isn't as exciting as a trial advo hypothetical =)

photos from the chalet!! sorry for the weeklong delay =) we had much fun, and now, look where we are now.

just in case ppl aren't very intuitive, the speed control panel is at the bottom left corner. slower, pause, faster. hover over picture to get a caption.

day 1: arrived at the chalet at abt 6; with the sea literally at our doorstep, it was quite a pretty view. winston was injured in soccer battle so ying the expert in injuries (attaining and inflicting) gave him an impromptu physio session. when attendance was full, drinks started flowing and i prob kena-ed abt 12 shots. went for a night walk with some of the guys, then waited to see the sunrise, but unfortunately, it was too cloudy for that in the morning. too much to do, no time to sleep.

day 2: after buying bbq essentials from tampines mall, the girls went exploring in the much hyped about changi hospital. i guess it's a good thing that the trip was uneventful. an initial downpour dried up by 7 to allow our BBQ to proceed. it was a mini fac reunion and there was more than enough sausages, hash browns, satay, prawns, nuggets, marshmellows etc to satisfy everyone. drinks session later was loud and rowdy cos the guys were damn high. alan and yax were the main targetboards, while tris and kong were greatly amusing by the time the night ended.

school so far has been good cos i'm still in the holiday mood. went to town to shop both yesterday and today and i bought 2 pairs of new shoes in an afternoon. chinese new year shopping shall be my justification =) my timetable cld be better, but at least it's only 1 evening of 6.30pm public law tutorials. it feels like time hasn't quite passed at all, yet, a new year has come and slowly, ppl are all gonna start dropping into muggers abyss, never to surface till 4 months later.

welcome to the 3rd day of 2007. it doesn't really feel like a new year since now that i've left the school going days, i no longer have to write the date at the top right hand corner of my exercise book, only to irritatably yank off the correction fluid cap to correct the numbers that remained in the previous year. poor little kiddies are back in school today, yes, back to the drill of waking up at 6am. muahaha. well, at least it clears up the way in town a little bit. chalet with the whole lot begins later today; all the way in a bungalow in far flung changi. it should be fun... hopefully not in the spookfest sense, but that'll be somewhat fun in a retrospective kind of way. if law ppl wanna come over for the mass bbq session tmr evening, feel free... it's a very large friendly group we've got already. of cos, it won't hurt to bring some edibles/drinkables along with you. call for directions!

its the last day of 2006! whyyyy does time fly so fast! while i bemoan the passing of time, there's still many things worth looking forward to post new year- the annual "ES in da House", chalet with the... everybody at changi, catching up with ppl, oh yeah... school term starting again. that's like... damn exciting.

in a mandatory reflection of the year, i'd say that 2006 has been a year of so many firsts; a good year in general. maybe i'll read my very detailed journal entries tmr, just for symbolism, but offhand, these events jump out at me:

- may 7 2006 9.30am.
- heart plummets and frantic talks with shloke before, uncertainty and shrouding after. the happiness of just being.
- law camp and its crazy preparations. we were happy kids with a mission to fulfil during a super long holiday
- living in pgp, nights with the girls, studying together, 4am bedtimes, drinking baileys+soya bean with adrienne at 5am, suppers with the girls, tris/ khel/ albert etc
- pleaftt... one drunken night in adrienne's room, playing truth or dare, aloy the merciless bartender. for the 1st time in my life, i got...abducted by aliens. =)
- moots and LAWR. not as though it was anything life changing, but for some reason, the early morning slaughter in the old NUS moot court, and prancing arnd in formal wear, lingers in my mind
- easter mass in st francis xavier church, when i made up my mind to let go of several months of indecision, uncertainty and pain. out of the darkness, as christ did from the tomb
- the day that several madcaps from TG8 decided to dig out old uniforms to relive our youth
- moving to the new campus, cursing 855 for always eluding me in the mornings, lectures in the back row
- the KR canteens... somehow, memories associated with the old school all seem to be tinged with a rosier hue. arts canteen: eating quickly during props building break/ a lamp shattering during a thunderstorm one afternoon. biz canteen: 55cents teh tarik, desserts, the guys' fav western food, long queues at the dumpling stall
- tg 8 events: stayover/ mahjong nights at rui's, once in my tiny room, at khel's, settlers games, kbox-ing to stupid songs

2006 has been good to me, and i hope that the years to come will yield equally fruitful memories. have a happy new year, everyone! celebrate with lots of bubbly and be merry!!

awfully slow internet connection. pity about the earthquake off taiwan, but even more so the children of technology suddenly rendered hapless and orphaned...i have many photos to post, but photobucket is running on a low.

went to st james powerstation last night with the old a15 bunch. now we know where we'd be in 20 years time if at that age, we're still feeling fine and dandy. the crowd in the smaller rooms were...well into their working years, and the gyrating performers on stage were somewhat reminiscent of a 7th month stage shows, what with their skin tight leather outfits (or a patchwork of small strips of material). thankfully, things got a little more normal in the main room, which had rather good music and enough elbow room. met elan and chimmy's brother there too. a waiter came around with trays of free tequila shots for the girls, urging us not to stop at 1, which definitely ups their PR levels by 5 notches =) cw's eyes got scarily red so we followed her outside for some fresh air, and since the songs were starting to repeat and (regretfully) we were getting old, we left at 2 plus. cooled down over supper at a dintaifung/prata restaurant in the building, and had the most expensive teh tarik i've ever drank. we were presented with a $120 bill, which obviously wld have been alot more teh tarik than we cld swallow in one night. hrrmmm... if they try this stunt often enough, i'm sure there'd be 1 or 2 very drunk mobs who wld pay any amount they see dancing on the "sum total" line. how's that for raking in the profits!

if only the location wasn't quite so far flung, st. james wld be quite a strong competitor to MoS. as for zouk... we all know that zouk has its secure market share of loyal 17 year olds. bahhh... with less than 2 weeks left of the holidays, go have fun asap yeah?

eastside escapade with siew men and ying today!
feeling jaded with the usual fare that town has to offer, we decided to venture into chinatown instead, hoping to find some bargains. the clothes in the quaint little shops were not our average high street fashion for sure, but the more normal ones are actually the same kind on sale in far east/ bugis. but i saw a top that cost $39.90 in bugis for just $26 here. we cldn't walk a few metres without being offered a yard of cloth by elderly shopkeepers. spent alot of time in a jewelry making shop where u cld pick any selection of pendants, loops and tassles and the owner wld meld them together in your desired pattern. most cool! however, i cldn't decide whether my design was worthy enough to deserve creation or not; my cold feet crept out of the shop. besides, the effusive bimbotism of a group of gushy galfrens turned my creative juices into sugar syrup.

when in chinatown, one has to try the food. we had the famous yong tau foo in the hawker center downstairs, followed by guo tie, then bak kwa (which siew men bought ALOT of and shared with us. hmmm, chinese new year cometh early!), herbal brews and finally traditional chinese desserts. today was so satisfying that we pledged to return soon, and maybe have a part 2 in geylang or little india.

my stupid mind that cannot make itself up struck again at the mango sale later on. i probably bored ying to death whilst deciding btw one size or the other. after ages i finally picked one, but now back home, i think i shd have taken the smaller one instead. eeerrrgggg... and i can't exchange sales items! blah.

that took a whole night to collate! why do i blog so slowly =( anyway i think i won't jump ship to vox since the designs and features are limited. instead i got myself a new background. it seems to be a frightened gourd; which brings to mind my favourite joke... sooo, 2 peanuts were walking along a dark alley and only 1 emerged crying in fear. why? because only one was a salted (assaulted)! -_-

khel and i both went for hair cuts today and we have significantly less hair now. i didn't intend for the hairdresser to lop it off all the way up to above-shoulder level, but she did... ah well, it's not so bad, at least ppl can tell that i've had a haircut (nudge shloke). khel gravely proclaimed that "he'd reached the age when he gets angry when his hair falls into his face" and got himself hair that can be spiked up. for once, the dude gets a haircut without having to be dragged kicking and screaming to the shop. it's back to bugis again tmr cos i need to exchange sth; and as luck wld have it, winston wants to go again too! i have company, tralala...

we went to the zoo today as part of our christmas charity activity and woaaahhh was it a physical and mental challenge!! we walked arnd the place for abt 4 hrs, took care of rather... unruly kids, tolerated their taunts and highjinks and withered in the heat. the kids came from canossaville home and my group had mostly 12 year olds who definitely progressed in maturity since my time. they kept trying to create scandals abt us whenever a guy so much as touched one of us girls. despite our instructions, they kept running arnd and displayed lotsa attitude for us to deal with. but at the end of the day back in BTC, they melted all our hearts with a chorus of "thank u gor gor, thank u jie jie, may god bless you everyday!" the tougher the challenge, the greater our sense of accomplishment. we all heaved a great sigh of relief as we sent the kids off in their bus at 6pm; none lost, none hurt. dunno how much of the educational aspect the excursion achieved, but it was was generally a success. kudos to the organisers and to the volunteers who probably all emerged stronger people.

the zoo kinda sucked though; i'd always had the impression that the sg zoo was some top notch attraction, but instead, i saw a rather tired looking, weatherbeaten establishment with equally jaded animals. the lions and cheetahs looked especially bored as they just sat still, looking back with some disdain at the stupid homosapiens clustering to point at them. it's been a long time since school excursion days, and although the zoo wasn't too great, i'm still glad that i spend my holiday doing sth different. i'll be away at CSS retreat from tues to thurs. hopefully, it'll prepare my heart better to welcome God as christmas draws near.

freedom is mine now! but i've got the usual free fall sensation after jumping off the edge of a mugger cliff. you want to keep ploughing the earth and feel the solid assurance of a heap of notes and books, always there waiting for you. but now u've got nothing to stand upon... phlooshh, nothing's quite there anymore. not too used to this strange sensation yet... what do they call it? liberation? this afternoon, i woke up with a start from a longer than planned for nap and out of habit from the past month, started berating myself for wasting time and slacking. but then, i paused and realised: Oh, i CAN sleep all day if i want. ho ho... guilt is now like a registered proprietor unceremoniously struck off the register and finding that he's not meant to be poking around anymore. (doubt it'll be too much trouble to evict it).

breathed the busy city air for the first time in a long while yesterday; the gory racial mambo jambo xmas lights was doing nothing for the festive mood, but with the stage set for a month of decadance, i didn't need to rely on twinkling fairy lights for emotional uplifting. studying made me a dull girl, so i didn't have a great desire to browse the shops. kelvin tan treated us to seafood dinner at fullerton at night; thank you drew&nap*er! the guys were in black hole mode and managed to polish off a dinner meant for 9 when there were only 7 of us. but the food was delishhh... chilli crab/ peking chicken/ steamed fish etc.

a month stretches ahead; i know it's gonna pass by sooner than soon. but on day 1, i shall allow myself some sorely missed slacking. enjoy the hols!
